Nacreous Alchemy brings a little darkness to the domestic with truly unique Gothic Home Décor and Accessories. Michelle Marrero, owner and artist of this new shop, likens her style to "Disturbed Innocence Meets Fractured Fairytales". Some of her inspirations include spider canisters, dream boxes, and the PERFECT gift for the newly married couple called, Till Death Do Us Part...with a twist, of course.
Michelle is not new to the artists' scene. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a concentration in Creative Writing and finds that her pursuit in inspirational excellence reaps even higher artistic rewards. While poetry and story writing may be her passion, her talents in creating fun and functional designs is currently her focus. She truly believes that one person's trash is another person's treasure and brings new life to found objects from throw-aways and thrift stores.
She credits her dark side to her Catholic upbringing, being influenced by the rich incense, stained glass windows, and the foundation of physical death intertwined with spiritual life. The beauty of the church has remained a significant aspect of her creative nature, which she now combines with her instinctual gothic touch.
While Michelle considers herself as "...a girl in a room with her faithful dog beside her scribbling words and making dark themed accessories", don't let the simplicity of self-description fool you. Her work is beautifully detailed and created with both heart and horror. And who says it's just for the home!
